We hear from our customers all the time how successful their mosquito traps have been and how happy they are with the results but, they do say there is one down fall. Once you get to far from your mosquito trap you’re eaten alive. I’m Melissa from NorthlineExpress and I too have experienced this frustration and have a solution.
Whether you are strolling around your neighborhood, attending a gathering at a friend’s house, or enjoying a camping trip it is inevitable that the mosquitoes will see you as a free meal if there is no mosquito control system in place. You cannot take your mosquito trap with you everywhere that you go but there is a solution for mosquito control on the go!
I have tried a lot of different mosquito repellent products and as expected some work much better than others. In this video I will share my top 3 picks for mosquito control for on the go.
1. ThermaCell Personal Repellent Appliances
My favorite is the ThermaCell Mosquito Repellent appliances. These units are portable but do not require batteries, instead they are powered by butane. The butane heats the repellent pads and creates a 225 sq. ft. area of protection. They are nice because they provide enough coverage for the average patio or campsite or a couple taking a hike together. You can get ThermaCell appliances in handheld units or in lantern versions. Both types work equally well, it just depends on what you plan to use them for. If you are looking for something to protect you from mosquitoes while out fishing or camping the lanterns are a nice option because in addition to repelling mosquitoes, black flies, and no-see-ums they also provide light. If you are on the move I prefer the handheld units because you can use them with the appliance holster that clips to your belt so you can enjoy hands free mosquito protection. Another bonus is they do not have a scent and also do not require application to your body.
2. Terminix AllClear Personal Repellent Device
My second choice is the Terminix ALLCLEAR SideKick Mosquito Repellent device. This little device clips onto your waist or pocket and uses fan-based diffusion technology to circulate 100% safe, all-natural ingredients to repel mosquitoes and other biting insects for up to 18 hours. This unit does have a sent the all-natural ingredients like lemongrass, cinnamon, peppermint, and geranium oils are not a repulsive smell but you will smell similar to citronella. This unit does require batteries but it can be turned on and off so the battery life is pretty good I used the same batteries all season. The sidekick is smaller and lighter weight than a ThermaCell so that is something to consider as well. The small size does allow you to get creative I’ve even used one attached to my dogs harness on long walks and at friends’ houses to give him some relief from the mosquitoes as well.
3. Personal Repellent Patch
My third choice is something that is a great backup solution, it’s also compact cheap enough to keep in the car or right in your purse so you’re always prepared. These mosquito repellent patches cost under $2 and are an all-natural mosquito repellent that works for up to 36 hours. I’ve found that they are great for kids playing at parks, on camping trips, or anywhere really. They are simple to use as you simply place the 2” x2” clear patch an arm, ankle, or lower hip beneath a bathing suit. In my experience I did discover that the patch should be put on about 2 hours prior to needing the protection. The patch contains no harsh chemicals, pesticides or insecticides; only the vitamin Thiamin B1. Thiamin B1 does produce an odor but one that is only detectable by mosquitoes and other biting insects, not humans.
I hope that you have found this information helpful and will give our on the go mosquito repellent options a try. You’ll love them especially if you’re not into greasy sprays and lotions or smelling like a mosquito candle.
